Culver City

Project: Residence

Located in Culver City, Los Angeles, this quirky and colorful mezzanine is only 104 sq. ft. As part of a three-story apartment, this space was designed taking into account that any design enhancements would be temporary. Overall, the apartment has a neutral aesthetic, thus the goal was to create something unexpected.

Victoria wanted to reimagine what Black joy could look like in this space to create both a playful and vibrant, yet mature vibe.  Knowing that furniture would be limited due to the small square footage, Victoria relied heavily on artwork from Black artists and artwork that is representative of Black people. My client would utilize most of her time here due to the work from home shift, therefore, I wanted to design a space where she felt both safe and seen.

For texture, she opted for a faux cement plaster and finish accent gallery wall to brighten up the space. To add a personal touch as well, Victoria  incorporated her client's for love photography, so it was only fitting that she printed her photographs as polaroids placed on the locker alongside the different film cameras and photography books.
